Seems to have returned to a traditional bonfire nigfht around here, with minimal fireworks beforehand, hard times perhaps? We used the last of our fireworks bought from Sainsburys a while ago when there was a money off voucher in a newspaper that also worked in conjunction with a 2 way multi-save - buy fireworks get rockets free, buy rockets get fireworks free, so buy a newspaper with the voucher in get the whole bloomin lot free.

Still got these - there's probably some dire H&S warning about using them:

Took the wife and lad to a privately funded display tonight, because our local council has decided that the £24k cost would be better spent on someone's wages.

It was the most impressive firework and bonfire display i've ever been to, even if I did take some shrapnel in the side of my neck.

It was at the local cricket club, and I expected it to be disappointing because I couldn't see all the usual scaffolding and safety cordons and officials with clipboards in high-vis jackets.

An amateur DJ on a poor quality PA system initiated a count down, and I saw a couple of ordinary looking blokes hanging around near a tractor, and then about 3 seconds after the countdown got to zero, all hell broke loose.

For 20 minutes solid, the sky was just on fire. It was awesome. There was absolutely no let-up, it was just chaos but in a good way. I judged that at any point during the display, about 5 fireworks were detonating per second. I have no idea how much fireworks cost these days, but if its a quid per round, then about £5 per second was being fired into the air for a whole 20 minutes in that field tonight.

Yes but note where they were made. Stuff that was made in England at a time when stuff was made in England was made to last.

The local council put on a brilliant display on the local park here and best of all we get a clear unobstructed view from our garden :yess: :thumb:

Ziggy just noticed in your firework photos that there's what looks like a 'ghostly' looking face to the left of the first shot with a caravan in it :D

Err, actually guys we 'went decimal' on 15th Feb., 1971 (I know the date 'cos it was my Mum's birthday and when I went to buy her some flowers I was asked if I wanted my change in '...decimal or proper money'!) so Scrungee's sparklers were even older :heehee:

Leeds Castle had a display last night. Despite the name, it's actually in Kent. Still, to avoid any confusion, there were lots of temporary signs to point the way:-
