Hi ... it is annual, now, and doesn't flower that I know of ... and I've lived here for nine years. I'm thinking from past years that if I try to uproot it when it's larger (which is difficult because of the long tap root) it has prickly bits at the base ... :dh:

It looks like one of the Arums. If it`s spotted then it would be Arum italicum.:gnthb:

As it has a tap root, it's probably a perennial .... :dh:
Could be that it doesn't flower because we pull them all up .... :flag:

Looking at the Arum, it sorts of looks similar ... sort of .... didn't realise they just spread themselves around like this ... in my gravel every year (they are dead almond flower blossoms on the gravel in between the unknown).

I shall leave some ... or all as with all this rain for the past three months I can't get out to do anything ... I am a fine-weather gardener ... as see if it flowers and report back.

Thank you all for your thoughts.

    Hi Vikky,

The picture isn't all that clear and it would help if there was a bigger picture of it or a close-up :flag: :)

At first glance I thought it may have been one of the dock family but it also looks a bit like one of the brassica weeds.

Well, if it is dock as many of you suggest, I have no hope of eradicating it ... :(

ah I think its sorrell (which is in the Dock family Rumex acetosa) if it is sorrell leaves will have a very acidic but pleasant taste...but of course I couldnt suggest you taste something unidentified (although I would).
