In the good old days they just brought along a nice big wagon, wrapped all your stuff and away you go!! Now you have to make a list of every item you want moved!!!!!! It has taken me all day, you don't realise how much stuff you have until you have to LIST it all!! :thud: Found out also that my move, from Surrey to Wales will take 2 days!! they won't unload anything after they have driven to Wales they do that the next day, god knows what I shall sleep on I won't have a bed!!

When did you make the decission

          What, Where, Wither, When

Where did you decide on a house/flat
          Where is it ?

Just knew you were thinking about it last week, that was quick work
to sell, buy and move in a couple of weeks ?

Or had you already done it and were now testing the water of what to expect?

Ours took the whole lot up & dumped it in a pile in one day.

After a 6 hour drive up there, we just slept on the boxes.

Val, we are only half way to Wales from your place but you are welcome to break your journey if you want. The kettle will be on.

Put my house up for sale last Thursday, Saturday morning a young couple made me an offer on it which I accepted!! Monday morning I made an offer on a cottage in Hay on Wye which was also accepted, so now I am just pricing up removals!!!! I still can't believe I managed to do it so fast!! but I think pricing my house realistically helped a lot.

Well, can anyone recommend a removal Company? I submitted my list to the first one and they emailed me a quote, that was fine but then I noticed a few incidental things that I had forgotten to list so I rang them to ask what I do about these. You would never believe how rude he was!!!! he seemed to think I was trying to add stuff on free of charge!!!!

Second one today said she would phone me back re how long the move would take............and she didn't bother!!!!

Is there anyone except Pickfords who you can trust!!!

Well done Val, that was quick! Keep looking and only go for a removals company you feel you can trust.

Val google Van removals, a site will come up , You put what you want done on it and about twenty firms email you back with a price
They then start undercutting each other

My daughter has used it several times, once for a full house removal and a few times for small loads around the country

You get major companies who have staff and the removal van maybe just dropped off near your place and need to return to WALES preferably with a load rather than empty
Sometimes it is just the cost of the fuel dependant on how many are after your business, better something than paying for the fuel themselves

              Let the bargains begin

Enjoy your new home and thanks for your reply to my question

My stepson had a temporary job with a removals firm while he was studying. He was often required to sort and pack every single object from a house prior to a move - the owners didn't want anything to do with the task. At the time, my stepson was having difficulty remembering to sort his used underwear into the laundry bin, so I did wonder what kind of a job he was doing. But apparently he was a model employee; it is amazing what boys can manage to do when there's a pay cheque at the end of it.
