Getting the council to allow homes like that would be nil-impossible in most areas, can you imagine building control and the surveyor with their tick boxes.
There are a few eco homes around wales hidden away.
        I bet ziggy could build 2 a month:D

Methinks he's read the Lord of the Ring and seen the films too many times. Looks just like Hobbiton, while he and his wife are too tall the kids are about the right size for Hobbits. Hope they haven't been named Bilbo and Frodo.:heehee::D

I absolutely love the general idea of using whatever I could find but would probably prefer it if it was a bit less hobbity.

I would love to build my own house in a similar fashion, if I could get round the problems of finding the land, getting planning permission and a source of practical help and support. I think I could find the £3,500!

While I think the people who are going down this route are entirely laudable and principled, the gulf between their ideals and what the average Joe Bloggs expects from his life and dwelling are so vast as to seem unbridgeable. Just visit M&S home department on a busy Saturday and imagine their clientele consenting to live in a home made hobbit hole in a wood. It ain't gonna happen.

I think it's probably near the Gwaun valley in North Pembs, notable for alternative lifestyles, well worth a visit for its fabulous Celtic vibe and glorious Welsh scenery.

Oh yes, and the Dyffryn Arms, best pub in the Universe.

Yes, but isn't that the whole point? I mean, a hobbit house would quickly lose its appeal if it was in a hobbit cul-de-sac filled with other identical hobbit homes. I'm not even sure if it would be that green and sustainable if everyone was doing it. Every last patch of green would be filled with hobbits and their composting loos. You'd want to high-tail it back to the nearest Barratts estate just for a bit of a break.

                Lovely house, though.
