Have just found out that the cottage I am buying is a Grade 2 listed building. Does anyone else here live in one? I am just wondering about things like a TV aerial? Broadband connection? I don't think there is even a telephone there at the moment so may have to have that connected as well, Oh well, life is full of challenges!! :rolleyespink:

      Hi Val

      Your cottage sounds lovely!

I don't think Grade 2 is particularly draconian; you might have difficulty if you wanted to change the house drastically but I'm sure you won't want to do that.

      I hope this link helps.

I think the sellers should have told you it was listed long before this stage Val.:nono:

Being listed, you are not allowed to alter the appearance or carry out works without listed building consent, which is separate from planning & building regs consent.

If you do anything without LBC you face an unlimited fine and/or a year in jail.

In practice though, a call to the Conservation officer saying you want to put a tv ariel up and it will be completely reversable will probably get you the nod.

Years ago my boss put plastic windows in his listed medieval hall house :heehee:. Last time I looked, they were still there. Presumably, if they stay there long enough, they too will become a listed feature that future generations will have to preserve.

        Yes.

Is Hay on Wye in The Brecon Beacons National Park? - more planning restrictions, and is the property within the Hay on Wye Conservation Area? - even more planning restrictions.

You've got something on the boss then Clare, the charge they'll do him under is "Historical Vandalism"

But, oh yes, a conservation officer around here wanted the 1960's crittal windows in a 16th C house kept:chicken:

I've heard of such items as corrugated iron lean-to roofs and fibreboard roof access hatches all being confirmed as being protected by listed status.
