    Hi All,
I am very new to gardening and this is my first post.

We have a Silver Birch tree that is being overrun by these critters pictured.

The tree is only 2 years old and very small. Every leaf has a lot of these things on them and I'm anxious since some of the leaves are turning a bit yellow.

What are these bugs? Are they a problem and if they are, how do I get rid of them?

    Hallo Phillip,
welcome to Gardeners Corner:sign0016:. I have no idea what they are but whenever I see that many bugs of any sort, my head starts to itch!! Looks like an infestation that your tree won't be happy with. Don't worry, there are some good bug experts on here. Someone will be along soon to help,

Welcome to GC Phillip. :) There is a thread further down in this section posted by James Swann called 'Can anyone ID these please??' it's dated 27th July.

Could these be the same bugs as the ones you have?

    Hi All,
Thanks for the welcome and the responses.

I don't think they are the same as any of those pictured on James Swann's post.

Given we don't know what they are and assuming they are not good for the plant, any advice? I don't want to go overkill with chemicals, but I really don't want the tree to die!

    Thanks again

If you look up green shield bug native or non-native you will get a full life span explanation and pictures. This is what else i think they look like.

I would like to know what they are too. I've seen them on some of my stuff. I thought they looked like some kind of mite or aphids but can't find anything like them on the net.
