Large Grey bin for waste paper
Large Green bin for Tin and Plastic bottles (Not polythene or plastic food trays)
Large Brown bin for Kitchen food waste and soft Garden waste
Medium Blue bin for landfill, plastic wrappers,
All Glass is not collected you have to DIY THAT

The collections are alternate weeks blue & brown, Grey,
The green one is four weekly

The council this week, have sold HALF the bin lorries, and put the crews on two shifts
early shift and late shift
Same staff, half the transport costs (they have not taken into account the double high mileage the carts will be doing, and maintenance of same)

There are some happy bunnies of staff, gone from quiet 05:00 start around empty streets and back in the depot for 10:00 with the rest of the day their own
To, waste a morning waiting to start at 13:00 and work around busy roads finishing at 21:00

Grey for non-recyclables.
Blue for recyclables (except glass).

Same here Armandii, my garden waste bin never goes out, it all goes on the compost heap. We don't have to pay for the garden waste bin here though, so I use mine for making leaf mould.

We do also have one of those titchy little brown bins for food waste, but ours isn't lockable. Are the vermin round here more trustworthy then?

 

No bins for Lincolnshire - we're are a bit behind here in the fens - only black bag for waste and green bag for reclying - if the waste collectors spot any gaden refuse in a bag they leave the bag. All garden waste has to be taken to the local tip.

 

We have one wheelie bin for general household that's collected once a fortnight. We can by an extra wheelie bin for around £70 if needed.

Bottle, can and paper banks are provided in a communal area locally. We have to take garden waste and anything else to the amenity site 7 miles away. We are also allowed to take anything we like (recycle) from the same site for free.

 

South Norfolk, we just have;

Green bin; recycling paper, card, plastic bottles, metal cans-collected every other week
Black bin; everything else, but no food waste or glass-collected every other week

we have 2 compost bins of our own, have had for years. The glass we have to take 5 miles to the nearest bottle bank.
We have 2 green bins (we asked for an extra one when they introduced them) and every few years we have a snotty letter from the council "asking" us to justify having 2 green bins! We have to fill out a whole A4 page form!! Well, excuse us for trying to save the flippin planet, you numpties!

 

Three bins here -
Green for non recyclable waste, collected weekly
Brown for garden waste, collected fortnightly
Blue for recycling - glass, plastic, cardboard, paper, tins, newspapers, magazines. No need to sort, everything goes into this bin as there is a new "sorting" depot in our area that does that bit. This bin gets collected fortnightly, on the opposite week of the brown bin. Makes life very simple.

There needs to be a bit more joined up thinking nationally about recycling, as at the moment, it's up to each local council what they do or don't accept/recycle.

A green waste wheelie bin
Clear bags for recycling plastics
Optionally, we can buy a box for cans and glass bottles.

In our house, the green waste wheelie bin has many breathing holes drilled in it and is in fact my compost bin. I can't understand the concept for throwing away compost material and having some big heavy wagon take it away, only for me to then buy back (and transport) compost. Seems to me that I can short circuit that little process by not putting the green bin out.

Also we haven't opted for the cans and bottles box, for a few reasons. 1) I begrudge paying for recycling kit from the council, when I already pay my council tax, 2) I don't want the neighbours to see how many beer cans we get through (not loads and loads, but it looks like a few if you collect them over a fortnight). 3) I refuse to provide ammo for drunken idiots who decide to have a silly drunken battle as they stagger home leaning at 45 degrees carrying a leaking donner kebab in one hand while throwing things at each other with the other.

 

£2.50 per roll of clear bags for the plastic recycling (yes, they sell plastic bags to put out for plastic recycling day).

£5 for a box for cans.

At least they allow one concession. They accept Morrisons carrier bags, because they are mostly clear.

 

We have five bins at the moment one general, two recycling, and two garden waste. We can have as many recycling and garden ones as we want free

Blue container for bottles which the council stopped collecting after issuing to the whole borough.
Wonder why my council tax is so high.

 

all ours are free, but we have to buy the compostable liners to go into the kitchen scraps box

 

Here we have a wheelie bin for general waste (actually we and our neighbour produce so little waste we usually share one bin)
A Black Box for bottles and cans and Clear Bag for plastic bottles, again we often share with our neighbour - Blue Bag for newspapers and magazines. We also have re-cycling banks for these items just 10 minutes walk away.
Large Green Bag for green waste (for about six months of the year) ....but there is talk of this facility being discontinued as part of the need to cut council costs.
