Not the best photo so I'll say either Aconitum or Delphinium.

I'll try and get a better photo, and also maybe see what the flowers look like once they're open ;) thanks for the two suggestions, certainly gives me a starting point regardless! :blue thumb:

I'm thinking it looks like a mallow ??
I thought the first picture was an Aconitum??

Thanks Annie :) I think it's 'Pink Sensation' after finding the Delphiniums in my flower book :) the picture in my book isn't that clear; there are watercolour pictures of the flower clusters, and the photo isn't a close one and the flowers are all white and blend into each other! Maybe I need a better flower book ;)

I don't have mallows in my book! :cry3: I need a better book. The leaves look like weed leaves, the flowers are about the size of a 50p piece

I agree with Jenny that it could well be a Mallow, perhaps the Musk Mallow moschata ... it's the leaves that gives it away... long, thin and serrated, then 'fingered' ...

Edit: Take a look at the leaves here ...

          http://www.luontoportti.com/suomi/en/kukkakasvit/musk-mallow

We have them growing wild here and they were lovely in the Spring but I usually see them with the big 'roundish' leaves by the time I notice them.

Jenny is right, the plants in the two photographs are different. The first is possibly Aconitum napellus and the pink flower looks like Sidalcea malviflora.

Hmm, I am wondering whether I've got these mixed up... It's so tightly packed in that flower bed! Either way, they need identifying :) thank you :)

First and second pictures are of the Mallow ... it just so happens that an Aconitum is in the background of the second picture ... well, that's my opinion! :rolleyespink:

So which does the closely packed flower spike belong to?
