    Here you go Jack, my other half came across this picture. HMS Porpoise, March 1979 in Port Erin Bay. Apparently the original picture was in colour and the sand could be seen washing up from underneath her as she was so close to the bottom. She only stayed for a few minutes, enough time for the young skipper to acknowledge his father standing on the jetty. :)

          Well yes Jack but thankfully it worked out ok.. I think that is a wonderful memory to have Sheal & was wonderful for his old Dad too..

            The Skipper was very lucky to get away with it from both a naval disciplinary point of view and the submarine not grounding. No doubt he made his dad a very proud man though. :) The front of the sub is pointing in towards the beach, so it would have been a dodgy manoeuvre to turn it and make it's way out without grounding.
