    Hi All,

I would like to learn German, reason being I have a new job and I have to speak to a lot of colleagues in Germany. I am getting quite embarrassed that there English is fantastic, and I cannot even give them more than a hello how are you in there own language. I have looked into lessons, but they are too expensive. I was going to buy some CDs to try and learn. Has anyone learned a language this way? If so which CDs did you use? I do not expect to be fluent, but would like to communicate to some extent with them in there own language.

    Rusty

We use Rosetta Stone for Spanish. It's good but expensive. I also use YouTube for my Norwegian which I'm ok reading but not too good listening to.

    Hi rustyroots
I lived and worked in Germany for a while in the mid 70's and spoke passable German.
A few years ago we were going to Germany on holiday and I went onto a BBC programme called "German Steps" to brush up because I had forgotten a lot of what I knew.
For a free programme it is very good, The link should take you there but if not go to the BBC website.

Just checked, German Steps is now called "Talk German" but it looks like the same course.
