Hi all I posted the other day regarding my drooping top heavy kalanchoe I trimmed some off the top and it straightened up but its drooping again if I kind of just chop the top off it will I kill the plant
Its on my living room window sill I will try moving it for now see if that helps its very tall though so wondered how much I could cut off the top to help it grow wide from the bottom I am new to all this I dont want to kill the plant
Do you fancy have a go at growing some babies from it? If you did that first then you wouldn't have to worry so much about chopping back the parent You need some very gritty potting compost - cactus compost and fine grit mixed about 2:1. Fill a pot about 3/4 full, break some leaves off the mother plant, leave them on the side for a day or two (to callus over) and then insert them (the end that was attached to the plant) into the compost. Keep the compost just-moist. (Best to mix the compost in a washing-up bowl or similar with a little water - rub it between your hands - until you can feel some moisture. If you squeeze it into a ball it should "just" hold together, but crumble the moment you touch it so-to-speak. If you squeeze the ball hard and water comes out you've got way too much water in there! That way you will know that when you insert the leaf-cuttings that the compost is the right moisture level, and you can just water a little to keep it moist. I would weight the pot after you put the cuttings in, and then weight it again to see if it is drying out, and if so add water.
I have got a cutting from it already the plant itself is actually a cutting I took last year but yes I think I might try the leaf thing too the cutting I took is more of a trimming off the top
