If old it is probably not one of the new named cultivars.
I suspect it is the common garden one that used to be called Montbretia.
        Now renamed Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora.

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crocosmia_×_crocosmiiflora

Colours on internet pics make it very hard to tell for sure whether it is cultivar A or B. or C

See the catalogue here to appreciate the problem of a 100% positive id...

Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora 'Red King' has red flowers with an orange-yellow centre.

          Oh dear wiseowl....this worries me.
Yes... they are very colourful in the autumn...but some are incredibly invasive and can become a complete thug.

Years ago we were given Primroses...unknown to us it had dormant Crocosmia corms in as well.
I had to pull out tiny plants for years and never did manage to eradicate them.

Also many named cultivars are to my eye identical.eg. George Davidson is also sold as Golden Glory and Sulphurea. It is a bit of a mine field.
I suggest you only buy direct from the growers ..such as expert growers Trecanna Nursery.

Or visit Mark who holds the National Collection of Crocosmia to get his take on it.In the
small Town called Caistor, which is perched on the Lincolnshire Wolds!

          http://www.thecrocosmiagardens.net/5330367

One of my favourites is Crocosmia masoniorum rowallane..a glorious yellow

I've got quite a few Woo. They are young, but if you can remember to ask me next Autumn I expect there will be some division corms by then for any varieties that I have that you don't but would want :)

Good morning Kristen that is such a friendly and kind offer,so thank you ,what I intend to do is to have sections of the different varieties in,i have decided to just concentrate on my Roses and Crocosmia ,it might seem odd to a lot of gardeners but I have always loved Crocosmia and it would be a dream come true to have many different varieties in my garden:smile:

I have (assuming they are bulking up OK!!) the following:

                Crocosmia Hellfire
                Crocosmia : 'Columbus'
                Crocosmia : 'George Davison'
                Crocosmia : 'Mephistopheles'
                Crocosmia : 'Mistral'
                Crocosmia : paniculata
                Crocosmia : paniculata 'Natal'
                Crocosmia : Scarlet Wonder
                Crocosmia : Tamar Double Red
                Crocosmia : Tamar Glow
                Crocosmia : 'Vulcan'
                Crocosmia : 'Walberton Red'

The ones I would like to add to my collection are:

Crocosmia Alberton Yellow - autumn flowering
Crocosmia Late Lucifer - flowers a bit later than Crocosmia Lucifer - a variety that Christo Lloyd found at Great Dixter, but I haven't been able to source plants
Crocosmia Culzean Castle - red, long flowering period, arching growth
Crocosmia Paul's Best Yellow - (if you want a yellow one!)
Crocosmia Ocavango - (but not sure I want any more Orange!) Vigorous

I have Lucifer which is a bit of a thug, but the rest of mine are fairly well behaved. Emily Mckenzie tends to wander around as does Severn Sunrise (Salmon Pink).
I have Paul's Best Yellow and it is a very good yellow, may have some corms later this autumn if anybody is interested. The same goes for Dusky Maiden which is an orange, well behaved, about 18 inches tall (in my garden) with bronze foliage.

I certainly find that to be the case with the commonly available varieties.

                  That is outstanding!

I would be interested if there is any going begging.:)
