Anyone purchased from Sofaworks? We bought a curved sofa and two chairs from DFS about 7 or 8 years ago, and the sofa is getting really tired now - - the top of one of the arms is collapsing, the seat I sit on has required a DIY re-stuff (I shoved bits of old duvet and pillows between the springs and the seatbase), the seat Mrs C sits on is now also in need of similar treatment, and to cap it off my seat (recliner) is wandering away from the curved part of the sofa at quite a remarkable rate.... the gap is such now that the dog can lose a leg down the hole if he isn't careful. Now, we didn't have any problems with DFS, apart from a 3 month wait to get the suite, however I am not entirely convinced of the quality they are offering. SCS have nothing that jumps out at me on their website, and for some inexplicable reason there is something about their site that I don't like (can't put my finger on it, but I don't like the cut of their jib). The Sofaworks site looks really good, and we have found a sofa that we really like (will need to measure up to be sure it fits), which looks like it will actually give us a bit more space (the current suite was bought to fit our old house which had a living room two or three times bigger than our current one), and I particularly like that you can choose the quality of leather or fabric on the site and it will adjust the prices accordingly. Better still, the estimate of 4 weeks for delivery is better than 3 months! So, is it too good to be true, or are they half decent to deal with? TrustPilot reviews seem very favourable, but then DFS & SCS aren't far behind....
Id spend the next few weeks checking ut local auction rooms where you might be able to pick up a 4k suite for a couple hundred that will last you 20 years. Ive seen somelovely stuff going through the salesfloors dirt cheap and solid quality
Think they were formally known as CLS FC. Not used them before. Bought ours from a workshop in Newport Wales, arrived in a box van in the early hours of the morning, poor delivery lads had a horrendous journey getting up to us. 20 years on 2 leather sofas still going strong, despite being in constant abuse from kids and dogs! Good luck with your purchase!
I got a DFS sofa and chair last year... this one to be specific (in the grey) and we haven't had any problems with the ordering, delivery or the slight repair we needed doing to one of the legs. I'd heard a lot of horror stories from friends and other people but on the flipside, i'd heard a lot of good reviews too. The sofa we went for was just too nice not to get, and on 0% finance i couldn't really argue. The quality of the sofa is really good and because it's fabric (i can't stand leather couches), the material looks good even after a bit of wear. I find that leather sofa's seem to look dated a lot quicker than fabric. I've got a few friends who've had a couple of issues with Sofaworks but they were worked out in the end. Unfortunately, i've not had any first hand or second hand dealings with SCS so i can't really comment on them.
We bought ours from Tesco Direct, don't laugh, they are very well made and 4 years later look as good as new still, these are the ones we bought: http://www.tesco.com/direct/new-ran...r-sofa/265-2798.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=262-5077 They were on 'special' at the time so we got a two seater 'free'
Thanks all @WeeTam - going down the auction path is not an option I'm afraid, as we would have to take advantage of interest free credit, hence these larger retailers seem to be the prime choice. Another thing we have no choice but to consider is the shape and size and how it will fit in our room. There are loads of sofas that look nice, but are too big or the wrong shape for our room. However, the whole idea is currently sitting in abeyance as the car had a little fit to itself this afternoon, which may bring forward the date of replacement for that (before we get a big bill!) - first time it has let me down in three years to be fair.
Don't it always happen FC? You just try to get a step forward and something occurs to drag you back lol! Going on holiday soon, so the Hoover choose now to blow up and the year old Freezer has developed a very noisy motor. Got fingers and toes crossed that it will sort itself out, as it is currently full.
It is truly 'sods law' @Adendoll - I have been planning to change the car somewhere around 6 - 8 months time (I have only just reached break-even point with the current finance), so she has clearly taken the huff with me. I will need to dig out the VCDS cable and get it plugged into the laptop and see what is going on. I just hope I don't have a big bill coming.
PS - This is the one we were looking at in a 2-corner-2 configuration with electric recliners and upgraded leather
I wouldn't go for a corner sofa as the corner is wasted, an Adult can't sit there if the seats are used either side, there is no room for legs. Even the seats either side are difficult to use as you're fighting each other for legroom.
Well, we've been and gone and done it today. Completely different experience to buying our last one in DFS - salesman said hello, showed us how to use the iPad thing at each display, and then left us to it. No pressure, no hassle. When we did need help, he was friendly and knew his stuff, and even went off and made us a cuppa whilst we were browsing. More impressive, he offered our daughter a drink of juice and as they had ran out, he went out and came back with a carton of Ribena! We tried the Jaguar one that I linked to, and it was OK, but it was one of those that you sit 'on' if you know what I mean? The corner group was as @JWK described too, not big enough for anyone over child size. However, we then went to look at this fellow which I sat my bum on and basically melted into the sofa - - so comfortable, and soft yet supportive too - the lumbar support is immensely better than our current one ever was, and it has good neck support which helps me with my arthritis. Better still, the corner seat is an actual seat that an adult can easily get comfy on. Not the cheapest thing in the world (we went for a 2-corner-2 with electric recliners, then added the category 200 leather being the thickest should last longer (we hope). Our DFS sofa is parting company where the ends meet the middle curved bit of the sofa, mainly because it is only held together with a peg and a latch idea at the bottom; I mentioned this and asked what their sofas were like, and a couple of minutes later there were two staff putting a sofa upside down to show us how they construct the frames! For the first time in a long time, we have made a purchase and not left feeling like we have been done.
I was going to say that you really need to go in and have a sit down. I nearly bought one from there a few months back, but just couldn't decide. They don't do the hard sell. I don't think any of them did though. Some didn't even phone me back! I hope you are happy with your purchase
The funny thing is, looking online, we had pretty much made up our minds on the Jaguar one (being nearly half the price of the Superior helped a bit), but as soon as I put my bum on the other one and literally sank into it, that was it for me. We can't wait to get it now - in fact, I have just ordered a new lamp to sit behind the corner bit, and I now need to sort out new pots for our plants which will be re-homed to the other end of the living room
