Being windy again today, we took Dog for a walk around the outskirts of the village and along the sheltered, brambled lined, grassy path (between a conifer plantation and some new woodland) where there's the best site for Speckled Woods for miles around.

No Speckled Woods, but some species I don't think I've posted on this thread yet. on the way I discovered a huge area of 'set-aside' in the corner of a field of beans, full of Thistles, Vetchlings, Knapweed, etc., and covered with clouds of Butterflies. But exposed and far too windy today.

Gatekeepers (there's now loads of these about)

      Peacock (very few this year)

I also saw a beautiful large brown fox along the path some distance away, but only got a rubbish pic as I'd only taken butterfly photography gear.

I'm also a member of BC, plus RSPB, NT and the local Wildlife Trust. Loads of places to visit, and they all have sites for Butterflies, Birds, Wildlife and Wildflowers.

Out for a dawn walk this morning, I spent a while watching this Comma flitting around in a patch of nettles.

I was out 30 mins later, getting the washing in, and took my mobile down to the washing line, JIC...

...and a shy, hungry butterfly that wouldn’t open her wings in this heat! (I think it was a gatekeeper)

...and an orange beauty, (edited to clarify - a beautiful butterfly that is orange, not an “orange beauty”, as in a species) who was sunbathing on the bottom privet hedge this morning IMG_20190802_112523.jpg

Apologies for the poor quality photos, taken at a respectful distance with my phone, then cropped in
