i have two Pauls scarlet roses, looking for a home in my garden. I was thinking of training them to grow up and around the front of the woodstore. At the moment, we have two wisteria there. One older (going to flower for the first time this year!!) than the other. Would they make suitable climbing partners for the roses? Or would they do better going up a tree-trunk? (Have possible young oak, or established cherry "hosts".)

I also have a climbing iceberg, that I am thinking of training to go across the top of our garage entrance, to hide the concrete "joist" over the entrance (can't think of the correct term, after listening to Dutch and French all morning!!). Planning to dig a big hole at the base of one side of the entrance, and plant a climbing iceberg rose. Would a clematis make a suitable partner?

Clematis and roses are a classic combination, Sian ... I say go for it! :dbgrtmb:
Now, the big question is ... which clematis will you choose? ;)

Well, I have a clematis tangutica that is coping, just, being in a large pot (so many plants were grown in containers, before we moved here, and not all have been planted out yet). I'm sure it would be delighted to be released into open ground.

I think it will take off like Billy-O Sian once planted in the ground.

I would go for a Viticella "Group" as you can cut all the old growth down each year to about 12 inches/30.49 cent is better for the rose and for you as it wont carry the weight into the winter , one that i grow is and is great for flowering low down rather than sky high when you grow into other shrubs trees etc
