    Evening all.

    How come, despite the common cold being such a common disease that it even gets the word 'common' in its name, still has no cure, despite all the modern science we have today?

    I have a theory. Governments bang on about lost working time due to illness and how it affects the economy. It would be too easy to think that if they are really that worried, they'd plough resources into finding a vaccine or a cure. But how would that affect the economy really? Imagine, no more sales of Lemsips. Everyone in the tissue paper supply chain would be out of pocket. Even in the alternative remedies sector, no more non-alcoholic green ginger wine sales, echinacea reduced back to being nothing more than a beautiful garden flower.

    Lots of things would lose their place in the market if not for the humble common cold. Many jobs would be lost. Much government revenue would be lost.

    Then there's the opportunities that the common cold brings. How often, under normal circumstances, does a chap get to lay on the settee, and occasionally make random whining noises, and have his missus leap into action to bring hot drinks, lemsips, tissues, blankets and almost anything else (within reason) that a chap could ask for? And when else can a chap say to someone he isn't in the mood to see, that it is best for them if they stay away for now because you don't want to pass on your lurgy?

    So I salute you Common Cold germ. And I thank you for infecting me on this fine weekend and reducing me to a useless, snot infested, exhausted slob.

      Hope you washed your fingers before posting that Dave, don't want to catch your virus thru my computer.

      To quote Dr Who, "Why sell the cure when you can sell a million palliatives?"

      To cure the common cold, we'd all have to avoid each other for 2 weeks & make sure there were no old tissues in coat pockets.

      Still rough. Its affecting my concentration now too. Managed to drag myself off to the diy shop earlier for some black paint to paint a black cross on the front door, but forgot what I went for and came back with another pair of loppers.

      All my joints hurt now. I'm sure a cold isn't meant to do that.:(

      colloidal silver and vitamin D ... there are others we dont even know about that work ...

      best kept secrets being hidden by governments and Pharma companies as if released, they loose money ... governments are even trying to ban vitamins now

      same as cheaper energy .... cars can run on water .... but one of the guys who was in the process of patenting his design died 'mysteriously' ... (stan Meyer) ... his drawings and designs were 'siezed' by the CIA/FBI and kept secret

      same as Nikola Tesla .... search google and check the videos .... all his info is kept secret

        While we don't always agree on the conspiracy theories, I'm with you on the one about the common cold. I find it impossible to believe that no clever boffin has ever managed to find a vaccine for it.

        In this household? :loll::loll: Never.
        While there are many things I love and admire about Mrs Trunky, I can say with absolute certainty that she will never have a career in the nursing profession.
