Here is something unbelievable ... an almond blossom in early November. We have seen them bloom in December but normal blossoming is January/February. The leaves haven't even fallen from the tree completely and almonds bloom on bare branches then the leaves appear. Global warming ????

It's since you deepened Offa's Dyke David. You are now a foreign country so have foreign weather. Can I sell you a pint of brine my boy?

Probably won't last long, David, not enough for eating purposes. [IMG]

I'm passing you by, John, go have a Martini or two ... [IMG]

Looks promising, mira ... if all else fails, I'll send you one. [IMG]

No one knows how old mine is, could be nearing 100 years old ???? It's one of the largest almond trees anywhere in this area. We keep it trimmed to about 20-25 feet (because of the power lines above it) and have to keep the laneside cut back severely ... very sad ... the lane behind it is the lane to my home. [IMG]

Probably just confused LoL, like the rest of us.
Not sure but I guess flowering is induced by a cold spell.
So unless the tree is flowering all over, its just got mixed up. I have had on one or two occasions apple blossom on my trees with ripe fruit.

To be honest pete I don't know but I think we need some kind of cold.

We're lighting our fire each evening now ... in the living room, the only heat in the house, but it's only to take a chill off the rooms.

We didn't have any apples on our tree this year, lots of blossoms. We've got no grapefruit (but didn't expect it this year) one lime (but had lots of blooms) and three lemons.

We're looking forward to see what this winter (ha) does for us.

I went out to dislodge a few weeds which suddenly seem to have sprung up out of nowhere in the Aptenia (creeping daisy) and was pulling them up and and tossing them in the orchard (as one does) when I pulled one up with an almond attached ...

If anyone would like a treelet (the tallest one here is 18cm) please let me know ...

This is a picture of the mother tree the other day (the Aptenia is the green mat beneath it) ...

Didn't think for a moment you could, pete. [IMG]

Anybody fancy trying an Almond Tree? I won't say you'll get almonds there but it's a lovely, unique tree. After ten years here, this is the first time I've seen this happen. PM me with your details if you do.
