Bought this small rose in Morrisons today, which was labelled as a houseplant, but no name.

I just love the colour :wub2:

The flowers are approx 2.5 inches across fully open.

It's actually four small plants in one container, so I would like to split it out and put them in a row in a trough.

Does anybody know what variety it is and whether it would be hardy enough to grow outside?

I have lots of them in all colours and they are just mini hybrid roses, often grafted. I have had some outside for years and years. Some have small blooms and others quite large and scented. I don't know why they come in 'fours' but that is the only way I have seen them. Yours is a lovely colour.

I personally would not consider it / treat it as a houseplant but as a patio rose. I believe if planted in the ground and left to it's own devices it would revert to it's parent.

Thanks Victoria. I do intend to plant them outside in containers :blue thumb:

Right, have split them out and ended up with four plants. They are a bit 'leggy' and the blooms seem too heavy for the stems. Do I prune them back now so they can bush out a bit or is it too late (ie if I do it now will it stop them flowering for the rest of the summer)?

I also treated myself to another patio rose and a fragrant one (Double Delight) but not sure I like the look of the latter, having Googled it, so may take it back and swap it. Roses were two for a tenner in B&Q.

Hi, merleworld, they look nice in their pretty individual pots. I have never trimmed mine whilst blooming but do give them a 'tidy up' when they have finished blooming. In the Spring I trim out any dead wood and snip the tops to freshen the stems ready for their new growth.

It's not raining at the moment, so must go out and see how my new scented orange patio and yellow climber ones are doing.
