    HI
I recently moved into a new house and this lovely tree is in the garden. I'd like to know what it is so I can care for it properly. Many thanks for any help.

Hi Devon gardener & welcome to GC.. Ooh I think you are lucky enough to have aHarlequin Glory Bower there.. Otherwise know as Japanese Clerodendrum, Peanut Butter Shrub, Clerodendrum trichotomum
They smell gorgeous & I would love one but nowhere to put it.. The seeds are poisonous but otherwise not a lot to do to them.. :blue thumb:

I would have guessed Heptacodium miconoides, but I'll Google and check.....:) I thought Clerodendrons were more shrubby than tree-like, Marley? The leaves are right, though.

Noisette, it was Marley Farley who offered the ID. Way out of my league,

    Thanks Marley.:blue thumb:
I was hoping someone would ID this.
I'm sure one of these was growing on the main road through Appledore in Kent up until recently, just never stopped to get a good look.

There is one not far from us but on a main road so not easy to stop there either.. They keep their shape so well & are very attractive to the eye & the nostrils..

Thanks everyone for the speedy and good info. We have moved into a house with a lovely garden, but its a bit overgrown, however there are quite a few gorgeous plants. A friend helped identify most, but he didn't know this one. Looking forward to the berries coming along in the winter. I'm actually lucky enough to have two of these trees, one on each side of the house. The second one is much smaller.

It's a glorious plant, but be aware that it can sucker. If it does I'll take one off your hands!
