I won't get an Alexa or any of those things until I can change the name you use. I want to be able to call mine either Zen, Orac or maybe Avon.

You can change it to anything you choose, otherwise it would get confused in any household with a human Alexa.

You can change the name, but only to one of Alexa, Echo, Amazon or Computer.
You can get it to change the name it calls you.

This morning Alexa wouldn't work it was having issues connecting, but could use the app to switch the lights on or off. Later it came back and all is well.

Sometimes we have to power off and on to get her out of her silent mode.

Because it spoils the routines that's in the app.
Hubby likes to have these things and I agree I could use the light switches but it's convenient to have Alexa.

I have key lights upstairs on my Alexa app, which is a godsend at the moment, it means that if hubs is in his workshop I don't have to hobble upstairs with my dodgy knee to switch main lights on...agree though that it is plain lazy.....once I have my opp the app will be made redundant!!:dbgrtmb:

For me the only reason we have Alexa is because most of our family do too , so it's a convenient way for us all to keep in contact, especially throughout the Pandemic. Being voice activated it means it's also very easy for my brother and my 89 year old Aunt to use.
I certainly won't use it to replace what my legs, hands and brain can do!! :nonofinger:

The only routines in the app are what you put in yourself!
