This year I have put netting over my runner beans, the green nylon type. Which has made a significant difference for stopping the flowers being pecked off by sparrows.
However, the problem that I now have is that birds are getting trapped in the netting. Anyone else having the same problem? The only solution I can think of is perhaps a different type of netting, is there such a thing? or any other ideas?

I would suggest enviromesh or veggiemesh, more expensive but longer lasting AND would protect from aphids.
