We try to make our garden as animal friendly as we can. We have fruit trees, berry trees, bushes, insect friendly plants.

Today I'm thinking about blackbirds and their nesting habits to raise chicks on the ground.

A lot of our neighbours have cats and I have seen at least 10 different cats in our garden. We also get foxes.

What can I plant which would give the fledgling even half a chance in a world full of preditors?

Short answer, trees, as long as there is trees or largish shrubs the birds stand a better chance.
My garden is full of trees and the birds love all the available perches.

Also prickly hedging type plants like Berberis and Pyracantha, somewhere the birds can hide and the cats will be deterred from.
