If you can take a look at ITV Anglia - 1966,
pirate radio stations, the beaching of radio caroline, listening to radio luxembourg on a crystal set, the singing postman "ha yah got a light boy". I was suddenly back there - so much fun.

How about "Dan Dare" and the early days of the Archers, "Navy Lark", Hancock's Half Hour", "Educating Archie" (who's bright idea was it to use a ventriloquist's dummy for a radio show!!!!!!)and there was one on at about 6.30 pm something "Special Agent" with a side kick named Whitey!!

I think that was Dick Barton. I remember one episode which ended with him lying at the foot of the stairs in a pool of blood- as a five year old it gave me the horrors for years... later on when I was a teenager there was 'Journey into Space' on Sundays. And when I came home from school my Mum would be listening to Mrs Dales' Diary.
Anyone else bring up their children on 'Listen with mother'- Are you sitting comfortably? then I'll begin....

Blast from the past? I still have a letter sent to me by Radio Caroline when they first started broadcasting. Simon Dee was one of my favourites. [IMG]

Also from a different form of entertainment - when there was Speedway at The Firs Stadium in Norwich - I still have two autograph books with many of the top riders' autographs. Don't know why I keep them really - anybody a collector? [IMG]

Anyone remember the "Grove Family" on BBC TV when there was only ONE channel? It must have been the first TV "soap".

Yep, society has gone downhill since Mrs Dale, Jim and family got the chop from the old wireless set. :D

Ther demise of the thermionic valve, galena crystal and 'cats whisker' and the rise of the solid-state semi-conductor is at the root of all our current social problems. :D

Bring back the Light Programme,Workers Playtime Wilfred Pickles, Percy Thrower, Journey Into Space, Round The Horn etc ;) ;)

...and don't forget "The Appleyards"! Some of those old wireless shows can be heard on BBC7 if you have one of these new fangled digital radios.

Bring back Housewife's Choice, Family Favourites, the Light Programme and the Home Service. Have you noticed that almost all radio stations play the same records now? Choice?

'I'm faint from lack of nourishment' has become a family saying- my daughters say it and they never saw the program. [Was it The Groves or The Appleyards who had that crotchety grandma?] Another saying handed down to the younger members who never heard it is from a radio play years ago, this time of a dead grandma- 'She's having a little lay down in the yard'...
I used to like the intervals-gliding, throwing pottery, swans.
Dave W, that's a very interesting social theory!

Dick Bentley. Ron maintained that the reason the longest day was long was because it expanded in the heat!

I'd forgotten about Ron and Eff in The Glums Hans.
    "Oh Eff, Oh Ron..."
And thanks for the reminder about The Appleyards, Hornbeam, I'd completely forgotten them!
I've posted this before, but if you missed it here's a link to some 50s/60s nostalgia.
    Have a good wallow. ;) ;)
