Some places that I've read, still consider Canada to be British ;)

I saw something a while ago on a forum, during the war that Russia had with Georgia. This American girl was worried because she believed the Soviets were invading the US starting with Georgia:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

They'd be on that midnight train then:snork:

Joking aside, I find there is a hostility from the kids if you try to tell them something that they have a vague idea about. Sort of don't be stupid Dad, I already know that, trying to stop you teaching them anything as they think with the internet they already know far more than you.

There was a member who joined here a few years back just to ask me where I got a quote from, as they'd obviously found me saying it on here, but couldn't find it anywhere else on the web.

                  They never replied to me.

I know what you mean Zigs, a lot of people need to see it written on the interweb before they'll believe it these days. The benefit of wisdom coming from actually learning stuff is missed on many younger folk. I do suspect its just a phase though for most. I bet you didn't always take your dad's word for everything:)

My boss often doesn't believe what I tell him. I've been in the industry for longer than him, and have seen most things so I can (and have many times in the past) forecast an outcome of a situation months in advance, not because I'm magic, but because I've seen it. Yet if I say 'if we do this, then in 6 months we'll face this challenge whereas if we do that, then we'll be well placed to just move on', he wont believe me, then 6 months will pass and he'll kick off asking why we're in a given situation:) I've sometimes thought it might be better if I post my recommendations anonymously on one of the blogs he reads, and then he'll walk into the room all bold and jolly and proclaim, 'we'll do XYZ because I've read that's the way to go'.

 You should do that as Clew Les Wan, the inscrutable IT guru:snork: He'll believe that.

Talking of empire, i've just watched Water, 1985 Michael Cain film about an obscure British Island in the Caribbean.

Very funny, available in installments on youtube.
