I want to change my broadband supplier but find it very confusing. Can anyone suggest a good supplier.
I was with Plusnet and TalkTalk and don't really want to go back to them.
I want broadband and landline. I haven't got a mobile phone.

Hubby uses virgin media for his broadband, it's very fast. We don't have the TV or the phone with it but you could.

A lot depends on what services you have in your area, is it just BT lines or do you have Virgin or CityFibre fibre cable networks ?

There are loads of offers around but if you only have BT overhead lines then the broadband speeds will be the same whoever is the provider.

What do you not like about TT and Pnet ?

Have a looks at the MSE site and enter your postcode into their Broadband checker which will show what available in your area, worth checking every few days as the offers change frequently.

Note that a lot of the Cashback / Voucher offers are only given if you complete your application 100% online.

          Thank you both ...

Plusnet once told me I had made too many phonecalls and that they were monitoring my calls and I could be barred from making some. I left.

TalkTalk were hacked (or something) many years ago and I became frightened of being with them after that.

I'm with Shell energy now but because Shell is buying oil from Russia I don't want to be with them any more.

Wire,Many years ago a company was digging up the paths and put cable/wire in to all the houses for broadband, TV and phone. It's like sky but with cable/wire instead of having a dish on the house.

As you are asking what is fibre/cable then clearly you do not have it as you certainly know when its being installed in your street as you will have little pavment black boxes outside your property after a lot of road digging etc.

If you look at that Broadband checker and enter your postcode ( its safe to use, you are only looking at them, not signing up or anything until you choose to ) you should find lots of suppliers in your area, probably Now, VodaFone, BT, even John Lewis in our area , all similar prices around £20 - £25 for BB and phone, but check each plan as phone calls costs packages are usually an added extra or just pay as you use.

Cannot understand your Too many calls with Plusnet, if you were on a call package and you went over their limit then you would have to pay any excess call charges.
Perhaps they were trying to let you know about that but it came across in a way you thought was more threatening than helpful ?

Thank you both, I have decided Vodafone would be best for me.

I did find Plusnet threatening @ricky101 they said they were monitoring my calls and could stop me making any more. I was worried I might need to phone one of the emergency services and I found it unacceptable.

That sounds so very strange from Plusnet ??

Do take your time a check every last detail with any new provider, though if done online you always have 14 days from the installation date to cancel without reason.

Also be aware that with some providers , the phone line could be part of the broadband connection so if that goes down your phone is out of action as well, though when signing up they do make that point very clear.
However expect you have a moblie phone so thats not so much of a problem, though it could be if you have various alarm services connected to your phone ?

Also check out the call price plans and who offers the best deal - seems Plusnet have monthly call limits , but Vodafones are unlimted ... ?

I think BT now have a minimum of £35 p.m. for broadband and landline but they will always do a deal of 20%-25% special offer for a new customer (they can need a bit of pushing). That would not include a call plan so you would pay for each call which can be exorbitant. I think their call plan of about £7 will give you 500 minutes per month free (to landlines and mobiles). So expect somewhere around £35 p.m.

I had something similar recently with Plus Net, I have been in touch with my GP's surgery 4 or 5 times recently. Each call consists of 5 minutes of covid warnings etc followed by 10 to 15 minutes in a queue, 2 to 3 minutes of conversation with the receptionist. This prompted Plus Net to send the following on the 27th Jan:
"We are contacting you today in order to make you aware of the most recent calls you have made from your landline. After doing some investigation on your account, we can see that your call charges made in the past 24 hours are higher, compared to your average monthly call charge usage.
Your credit limit is currently 55. You have spent 10.40 on calls for this month already. This means you have 44.60 remaining on your credit limit before you are restricted. This will be re-set on your next bill date which is 21-Feb-2022."
I cursed my GP's surgery primitive approach to communications, no text messages and an inability to leave voice mails beyond "ring surgery".
I took it as Plus Net letting me know about unusual activity so I could check it was me making calls rather than threatening. They cannot prevent you from making 999 calls.
Bear in mind that that a lot of packages don't mention line rental in the large print numbers.
Cable is a nautical measure of length approximately 100 fathom, 600ft.

They forgot to tell London that when they named Cable Street as it is 6335 feet long. If it was only 600ft long the, reportedly, 100,000 - 300,000 in the protest at the Battle of Cable Street would never have fitted. :)
