Butternut Squash

It is unlikely that the reason is because they came from a supermarket. As the seeds germinated and then the plants grew it seems to me that it is a problem with their growing conditions. Could be some bug in the growbag, a virus, a watering/not watering problem, or a dog or cat peed on them etc

Andy do you have drainage holes in your grow bags?, only asking in case your plants are sitting in water, just check that they are not too wet. Otherwise I think it might be pot luck sowing seeds from a supermarket squash, it probably came from abroad and might be a variety that doesn't like our climate.

 

The first two lowest leaves are the seed leaves, they will go yellow and die off, and I usually loose the next set of leaves as per your picture, but by that time the plant will have been much bigger though.

 

Hi, I too think it is because it is supermarket veg. Fruit & veg for them is often force grown,indoors & more often these days Hydroponically grown.. Therefore the seed is not usaully viable to grow...:(

However if you take seed from organic fruit & veg that will usually grow alright..:D but really I think you are best to buy seed the first time then collect your own to sow the following year & so on.. That way you know exactly what you are growing & they will probably have some resistance to pest & diseases..:thumb:

 

Well Andy quite understand.. Why not try something else then.. It is very disheartening I know when you have gone to all that trouble to try & grow them & that happens.. You feel so chuffed when they germinate, I know.... Then totally deflated when they don't grow.. Don't give up just try something else..:D
