I need a solution fast...apparently we have this new member of the family "fluffy" a brown hairy caterpillar. Any idea how to store it (sorry: keep him) ...what sort of container that you normally find indoors do you suggest? And what do they eat?

Were did you get "fluffy from" maybe he should go back in the garden as if you dont know what he likes to eat he may die then you will feel awful

plus the hairs can make you very itchy be careful !!! I think fluffy needs to go home quick

I agree with Spruce, Miraflores. Usually with hairy caterpillars the hairs, if they come into contact with your skin, will irritate it and cause a rash, so I would return it to where you found it.

If you're determined to keep it, then a large glass bottle, with ventilation holes in the lid, should do as a home. But you'd have to do some research to identify what kind it is and what it eats as Spruce mentioned.

I agree, put him back outside on a nice shrub and walk away. He will take care of himself.

I don't think a container is a suitable home for a caterpillar.
If this is a "pet" a child has brought home it might be better to explain that Fluffy needs to live outside with his family and friends and take him there.

 Hilarious way to put things, miraflores! But seriously, please don't take marriage lightly. I do think you should insulate the shed and take him out to witness the birth of your offspring. I've read they enjoy it. Beans on toast will do perfectly well. And if you train him well, he'll be putting up shelves, carrying heavy objects and opening your bottle in no time at all.

When I was a teenager I had a pet hairy caterpillar. I kept it for months, until my dad decided I'd looked ridiculous for long enough and insisted that I shave it off.
