    Hi

Hope you're all safe and well.

I was planting California poppy seeds (Red prince and cream variety) among the tulips today and accidentally split the packet among the now lush tulip foliage! They did kind of scatter and hit the ground, but will these have any chance of surviving? The other thing is i didn't water any of the poppy seeds that i had planted and covered with soil as i had to rush off. Do they definitely need a watering into the ground?

    Thanks

it has been on the dry side recently so a light watering in will help , no rush to do it the seed will just stay dormant without out adequate water / heat .

Thanks. The seeds that i spilt with put covering with soil, any chance they may bloom? I read somewhere that California poppy seeds sometimes grow on walls or other crevices eg paths without being covered? i dropped quite alot of the seeds ;/

Great! I was worried that they HAD to be covered with soil in order to grow. There was no way i was going to find them among the other plants and the seeds are all dark too. Lets see what happens!

No, they don't need to be covered with soil as when they're in the wild the seeds just drop to the ground anyway. They may have a greater chance of germination with a light covering but the seeds are so fine that they will drop into the soil anyway.

Try to keep the soil where they are just damp, Shaneoak. When the tulip foliage has died off, clear it away and your poppies should take over nicely :)

ah okay. I thought i'd just leave them dry because i was worried watering might affect trhe Tulips? Will the tulips be okay with light watering? My soil is fairly dry anyway and it's been pretty dry in Leeds the past week.

If the tulips are deeply planted, a light watering, (enough to keep the top 1cm damp) won't affect them, but it will help germinate the poppies :)
