Great pictures Sal ! There was a programme on last week called "last of the explorers". It was about John Muir a scotsman , whose actions , in the late 1800's helped preserve the Redwoods and Yosemite valley , he also influenced the formation of the USA national parks - the first in the world I think . He was an incredible man !

Those men are true lumberjacks, love to have a go at felling one of those redwoods, but my chainsaw is a bit on the small side

I have friends & relatives in California so have seen allot of photos like those.. They were amazingly tough men.. Some of the Lumber regions were so remote it is a wonder they ever got the timber to the lumber mills.. There are many 2nd & 3rd growth forests now from some of the originals that were cut down.. Redwoods are amazing trees not just to look at & smell... I have spent many hrs in Redwood forests & camped too.!
I saw the Garberville Giant before it fell & walked along it's length as well as we watched the loggers tidying it up..!! The tallest named Hyperion, is 379.1 feet tall, besting the previous record holder, the 370.5-foot-tall Stratosphere Giant.. Which I have a photo of in an album somewhere..
California & the West Coast of America would not be where it is now but for the Gold Rush & the Redwoods which are still both very much money making but in enviromentally safe & protected ways... The usa certainly have that well controlled..
