Was listening to the radio and they were discussing the cars they had owned with a lot of laughter - caused me to think back on my car owning history and what it said about where I was at the time. Note I do not buy new cars even if I could afford them (gremlins and depreciation).

    1. Hillman Imp - joint owned for rallying
    2. Triumph Herald Convertable - dead cool
    3. Bond Equip - even cooler - crashed and burnt out
    4. Ford Cortina - bad mistake, but skint.
    5. Austin Countryman - still skint
    6. Stilletto (sport Hillman Imp)- still cool though not reliable did reasonably well for six years
    7. Skoda - drove like a tank, but so solid and reliable despite the jokes but after 6 years of skoda jokes and a new job-----.
    8. Toyota Corolla - cool and reliable lasted for 10 years.
    9. Nissan Almera - couldn't find another Corolla in my price range or mileage - still going strong 6 years later

    So whats your vehicle history?.

I passed my test in September 1973.
My first car was an Austin A35 which was just about had it when I bought it for £30 in February 1973! But I had got a new job that required a car so I had to show willing. It sat on the front all winter at Lowestoft marina and gently rusted away!
Car two was a Mark 1 Cortina which I went miles and miles in - loved that car. £135
Next was a Triumph Herald whose first and reserve were almost like a crash box and wrecked my neck and shoulder. Once had to get my passenger to put it into gear!
Traded that in for a Datsun Sunny, my first auto whose bodywork very soon resemble a lace hanky!
Next was a Cortina 2.0L auto
Then, in 1989, I was able to shell out Ã?£7K for a three year old Nissan Bluebird 2.0L which lasted me until early this year - 16 years and did about 220,000 miles in it! One serious love affair. When I had to get rid, I draped myself across the bonnet and sobbed [IMG]
Then came the Megane 1.6L auto which some of you may recall was nicked after 3 months.
Latest car is Corsa Club 1.2L with a Duotronic gear box - anyone ever heard of those?

[IMG] I didn't start out with cars so I hope this counts..! [IMG]
My first peice of transport was a
BSA Bantam 175cc rode it around for ages with two back tyres on it, very interesting in the corners..! after that came the
MotoGuzzi Lodola 250cc. Loved this old thing, rode it around until we parted company down the road & it languished in the back of the garage. Meanwhile rode around on a 500c Honda for a while. Then had a couple of new small bikes for commuting into work, they coped much better with the traffic. Then we dragged the moto guzzi back out & did a restoration job on it. Oooh it looked smashing. Won a couple of awards with it, bought another one for Stanley Woods the old TT rider & shipped it over to Ireland for him. A little after that I got a Royal Enfield Crusader 250cc sport, restored it & rode at daily for about three years. Decided to sell the old MotoGuzzi, faithfull & dependable as it was. Waved good by to it with a lump in my throat as it trundled off to Fort William.Carried on with the crusader, but got a matchless to restore, that was fun, but not the bike for me, so it went to a new home. Then came the Enfield 350cc Bullet, oh that was a great bike with a wonderful turn of speed to it. Finally decided to buy a car of my own. First was a bullnosed Saab 96 two stroke 3 cylinder. That was the best car ever I think. Then various Saab 96s a 95 & a 99. After that came the Alfas a Sud & a cloverleaf.
Now we are at the Vauxhall gate & very happy with them on my third now... [IMG]

First car jointly owned with husband, old Citroen as owned by Maigret, white-wall tyres, running board, beautiful red leather upholstery, written off by an idiot with no insurance running into the back...
Souped up Bond equipe, got tired of it's erratic engine..
Old British jeep, Rolls royce engine, as many reverse gears as forwards...traded in for Renault 4 because of children and fuel costs [it did 12 miles per gallon on long journeys]. Renault was rubbish, worst car ever.
New Fiat Strada, great to drive but so much body rot only lasted 4 years.
Ist car owned by me alone- Toyota Starlet, brilliant little car, daughter had it after me as her first car, painted it with hammerite and it did 250,000 miles.
My only love affair with car- Toyota Celica, black, 5yrs old but spotless, had it for 13 years, engine still going strong when scrapped.
Nissan Almera, ok, not exciting but Motabilty car.
New one in Feb- Nissan Micra 160sr. Might be more exciting?

learned later on in life as we have always worked close to where we live and never got around to lessons so no long list of oldies except for the first one which was a

    Morris marina,
engine would go forever in these but the bodywork rotted so it was a matter of a bit of steel plate welding and it passed its MOTs [IMG]
trouble was it was bright yellow, so if the kids saw anyone they knew they would bob down and hide

    part chopped for a Nova
part chopped for a Mk2 astra
part chopped for a Mk3 astra
part chopped for a Fiat punto......great when we got it about 3 yrs old but it went belly up around 8 yrs old...looking on forums this is common with punto's and head gaskets etc at that age (if you have one and its ok and around 6 or 7 yrs old..nows the time to get rid:) )

    peugeot 205 1800 diesel
very economical for the size engine, had it as a runabout...it had a fault with the solenoid not opening sometimes when you turned the ignition key...a nice AA man told me how to run a lead from the battery to the top of the solenoid to bypass the problem...this I did via a swith on the dash...press the switch turn the key and it fired up every time but you had to remember to press the switch off when you stopped or the engine would still be running even with the keys out!!

Son bought a new car and gave me his Corsa, so flogged the peugeot

Better half has a toyota starlet, so can agree with Liz they are a great reliable small car

First car I had was a 1950 ford prefect it was quite old but was garaged and owned by someone who wanted me to own it. I passed my test in it. The examiner was more interested in the car than my driving or so it seemed. I then had a A35 and up to today have only had a few cars.
an earlier post by Marley Farley Mentions a bsa 175 I still have one and it goes well ,new battery, Just wish I'd kept the Prefect.
