    .....Barn Owls.

One just swooped down as I was driving thru the village, flew above the car along the road. Lovely view of it in the headlights.

I saw a programme about owls on telly just the other day. Apparently they can only do about 30mph, which is positively snail pace for a bird of prey. However considering they can do that with incredible agility in almost total darkness, pinpointing their prey by the slightest sound when its too dark to see it, and they do all this in total silence, they're pretty amazing creatures.

Clocked this one at about 28mph.

Its Owl City out there at the moment, at least 2 pairs of Tawnys mouthing off at each other.

I see you're SW of Huish E, we had planned to go to Ham Wall but left Street too late. Have to make another trip and include Shapwick and Zigland.

                  That'll be cool.

I'm 5 mins away from Swell woods, but thats quiet when the Herons & Egrets have gone, just a few nuthatches & tits in the winter. Oh, & several very fat squirrels sat under the bird feeders:snork:

I go down Greylake a fair bit, was down there last week.

We have Barn's and Tawny's around us, but the big birds are definitely the Kite's being harassed by the crow's in the field's. So nice to see all this in such a small area, wife said there was a Sparrow-hawk in the garden as well after a snack or something.

The forest around us here is mainly conifer so owls are not seen very often.
Kites have only ventured down here recently in very small numbers.
