What! No announcement from NASA or the NSA about the rocket taking off or flying suborbital?

Maybe they were looking in the other direction! :dunno:

Its been on the BBC News Science and Environment section for weeks following the story.

I'm not a fan of China having the upper hand in space. I don't think China as a state is any more trustworthy than some nations we already consider a threat. China is, and always has been throughout its known history, hell bent on conquest and imperilialism. The ONLY reason they still kind of half pretend to listen to the likes of Britain and the US is because we give them all our money.

They have taken nearly (or will have soon) all of the Earths mineral resources so they have to look elsewhere.
There will be a Ying Tong Tiddle I Po Mining Company there before long.

It wasn't actually supposed to be a space mission - they were trying to copy a Panasonic Video Camera and the lithium ion battery kinda went a bit wrong........

See this is the bit that I find a bit alarming. Why did they need to use the word 'peaceful'? Surely, if intergalactic domination had not even entered their minds, it simply wouldn't have even occurred to them to stress that it was for peaceful purposes.

                  The could have said this:

"China's lunar program is an important component of mankind's activities to explore [the] use of space with no intention at all whatsoever of putting anything sinister up there or monitoring our enemies, not that we have any enemies of course, and we certainly would be putting any nukes up there and it hadn't even occurred to us to put a massive great laser up there or a sealed tank of angry mutated sea bass or sharks with lasers on their heads just waiting for a signal til they are dropped into seemingly pointless water tanks all over the world," said Sun Huixian, a space engineer with the Chinese lunar programme.

I have absolutely no doubt at all that they are doing a speculative scan for certain minerals before laying claim to the entire moon and stripping it.
