I am looking to purchase an evergreen tree to go in a large pot. The area is not in direct sunlight. Preferably 2 metres across to 3 metres in height. Can anyone suggest something suitable??
    Many thanks

Good evening Joolsmc66 and welcome to the site, Apart from conifers there are very few evergreen trees. What sort of tree are you thinking of?

Thanks for the reply. We really have no idea! Just a tree that meets the requirements already mentioned. It's to go in a courtyard type area so we don't want it to drop leaves (hence the evergreen option) and it can't be too big.. We are quite new to gardening - sorry to be so vague.

Forget tree, think shrub.:D How much light does the courtyard get? How sheltered is it from wind? For the size you are thinking of, I would suggest :- Ceanothus, Escallonia. Daphne odora, Grevillea, Viburnum tinus, Viburnum tinus " Eve Price ",
Rhododendron, Feioja sellowiana. Ok for starters?:D:D:dbgrtmb:

the area is in between two houses so it does get quite alot of light and it's quite sheltered too. Many thanks for your suggestions, will have a look!

If we decided to go for an 'non' evergreen. What would be a good option for a small tree in a pot? Appreciate your help by the way

On the basis of deciding on a deciduous tree then I would suggest one of the many Acers as they like shelter and reasonable light. The Japanese Acers go from all shades of green to all shades of red with some beautifully shaped leaves.:hapfeet:
Dai is right though, and some of the Shrubs he has suggested can be tree like in formation and no doubt Dai will suggest other trees than I have.:D:heehee:

I agree with Armandii on the Acers. I would also suggest Liquidamber, any of the flowering cherries, Robinia frisia psueodoacacia, Sophora or ( an evergreen one ) Piptanthus laburnifolius ( Evergreen Laburnum ).:dbgrtmb:
