Hi everyone, I bought 2 of the same clematis yesterday. As you can see there is no name on the labels and limited care instructions. I'm lucky as in my garden is pretty varied. They can go into the ground with a obelisk in full sun or into pots with either a obelisk or canes to grow up again in full sun. My soil is alkaline and free draining. I have always liked the idea of having a clematis so I'm willing to give them a good go. Thanks in advance :dbgrtmb:

Hello JS, most Clematis like their heads in the sun but their roots in shade...cool and preferably not too dry. That looks as though it's got viticella blood (sorry, sap) in it's veins, so should be more forgiving than most. I'd prepare a good, deep planting hole with plenty of organic matter and blood, fish and bone. Cover the soil with stones or slabs after planting, or put a pot of something else in front to provide shade.
