I think we had Basil here in our mini herb garden (an old sink) last year. However, this has no smell to it.

As far as I know, when salad produces seeds it grows in height and has got a similar aspect to the picture you have posted. Therefore I think that yours could be a basil plant making seeds, although it looks like the plant is not well to me, from the leaves.
If somebody knows better, please, illuminate me...

Could be wrong Kedi but as far as I know Basil is not hardy, so if you didn't plant it this year I would guess its not Basil.
Also it usually has quite a strong smell if you rub it.
    Almost looks like lobelia.

Looks like Basil leaves, Sis, but it's not hardy even with me, nor is Coriander ... but you never know if you had it in a protected situation. As pete rightly says, the leaves are quite strong smelling!

Thanks miraflores and pete. I shan't use it then, just let it bloom out and then uproot it.

The leaves look a bit different but it does look like a lobelia pete. So, I now won't uproot it after flowering and hope it makes it through the winter. Can't imagine how it got there as we didn't have any lobelias last year apart from one of the small regular ones.

Yes kedi, I'm not sure that pic is an exact match but if you look at some of the others it appears to be a variable plant.
Dont think its good to eat though.
