For the last few years Ive made my wifes Christmas card. Shes an avid crafter and I can never find a Christmas card that I really like.

I had something in mind this year but she wanted me to use paper clay (shes on the Katy Sue design team so makes a lot of paper clay stuff).

Heres my card I made for this year - first time Ive used paper clay

My current piece of cross stitch in progress. Do you know what it is?

I've interrupted working on the above to sew this small tapestry for my 9 year old grand-daughter who has a passion for Zebra's at the moment. I'd bought the beginners kit for her for Christmas with the intention of teaching her how to sew. Busy as it was we didn't make a start, so we agreed I'd fetch it home and sew it for her. Surprisingly it's been a difficult piece and it's a struggle to pull the wool through the fabric - grand-daughter would never have managed it.

              Loving the little badger!
I think sometimes the “beginner” kits are made with over-starched canvas, which is really resistant to the wool. Maybe find her a simpler kit, and seriously flex the canvas in all directions before she starts, so it’s more amenable to behaving itself? Or even make your own “kit” with a canvas that you know works easily, and a simple chart...?

Thank you Sian and Logan. :)

I think you're probably right Sian. I've not used a beginners kit before, I usually buy a chart and gather supplies for it myself. It's the first time I've used Anchor wool too and I find it fluffs up and shreds very easily. A lesson learnt here for the future.

I won't be seeing her now for some while as we're a few hundred miles apart. Children's likes/dislikes change very quickly so I'll hold fire on another kit. She's quite creative though and enjoys art. :)

Made 2 more birthday cards, my friend Keith printed everything out on his computer and i cut everything out and put them on the card, with decupage. They're for a 10 year old girl.

I've finished both the Zebra for my granddaughter and the Badger. The Zebra tapestry not being a standard size proved difficult when it came to framing so I had to adapt it and create a border. There is reflection on the glass giving some shadow.

I enjoyed sewing the Badger although outlining the Bluebells took some time. I'm about to start the final piece for the trio and will post progress.
