I have this tapestry done by my Aunt, she spent most of her leisure hours "bodging" as she called it, she bought her patterns from Germany, and I do know the material was not marked, it was all done by following the pattern. There are loads scattered through the family.

Isn't that beautiful Pam. Thank you for showing me this today. Our "leisure" time is so pressurised these days that it is hard to switch off and concentrate on detailed projects like these. Now I'm retired, it's becoming easier and more appealing to do stitch/wool craft,

I think it is quite possible to draw your own picture, maybe with the help of some copying paper, on the so called AIDA cross stitch fabric which comes in different thread counts.

I did some water colour painting for a while before I've started to spend most of my time on gardening. To be honest I don't think I'm really that talented in painting but it was fun.
Here are a couple of examples of my resulting humble work.

This one is done on a plywood board about 32" x 21" hanging on the dark 170 year old stone wall above the fireplace. Just wanted to lighten the area up a bit.

        image.jpg

Did this one to kill some spare time and MrH liked it, so he made a frame for it.

There are quite a few half finished pieces around. Maybe I should make an effort to complete them :what:

Pamsdish that is stunning so many hours work!!!
HsuH wow lovely water colours clever you, something I'd love to be able to do unfortunately my brother got all the talent in the painting and drawing department.
No Sheal I've never tried tapestry I've made rugs and done a bit of quilling well tried lots of different things but like you skip from one thing to another , I taught myself to crochet when I was around 15 tried many times to teach my sister, who can knit anything, but shes never been able to get the nack of it either, thats something I can do without a pattern :heehee:
Here's my William Morris Strawberry Thief picture, well its going to be a cushion, there are a couple more designs but on navy aida don't think I'll be making any more, sitting with a white cloth on your knee so you can see the holes took forever!!!!

Pam....I'm not a lover of portraits but 'your' lady is beautiful and I love the detail. :)

HsuH......lovely pictures! I haven't the talent for finer art like yourself, mine in the past has been on a larger scale. I worked for an artist for three years painting the backcloths for the Royal Tournaments and loved every minute!

            Simbad.......lovely work again!

We have a lot of talent amongst the members of GC, it's lovely to see. :)

Anyone remember the first Cosmopolitan magazines? I think Copy 2 had a tissue transfer of an Alphabet sewing project that I saved but did nothing with for many a year. Then, enforced recuperation following major surgery brought it out of the bag and I started work on it. I finished it eight years later in 2000AD.

:wow: what talent we have here in the corner
                .
To all of you that have shown us your crafts, a big congratulations they all look superb. I did lots of knitting and crocheting years ago but like Simbad said the family got to the stage when they didn't want homemade things. Recently my daughter has taught herself to crochet - as she is left handed I could never teach her. I would love to do something now but with still working not a lot of spare time.

Thank you Simbad. I wrote a letter to my daughter when it was framed it was placed inside the frame. It is the only thing I will ask her to keep of mine. I hope she does and reads the letter one day,

This is the only tapestry that I normally have hanging, my others are stored away. There is some slight reflection from the glass in the bottom left hand corner. Approximate size 24in by 18in.

This chap I've not got round to having framed since completion. I bought him in Bergen, Norway some years ago. It's cross stitch in wool the thickness being like 4ply, I found it quite difficult to work with.

If a cross stitch is hung without a glass frame, how often would it need washing do you think?
