Hi everyone, bought 20 tumbling tom red seed from eBay a while back, sown them alongside 7 I found from last year this is the result. The 20 cells on the left are the eBay ones of which 3 have germinated, the 7 cells on the right are last year's of which 6 have germinated. I'll stick to places I've used before from now on. Just sent a message to the seller, no doubt it'll be my growing skills at fault:smile:

Be interesting to see if they even turn out to be tumbling toms.

I have had very random germination speed with tomatoes this year - some free on the front of a magazine came up in only a few days, others have taken weeks. I found the Premierseeds Direct ones pretty good germination, and they give you lots of seed for the money! I will just have to keep the leftover seed in the fridge for next year.

I've kept tomato seed for years, it still stays viable.

The f1 seed is usually more difficult, and in much smaller quantities

This year I germinated tomato seeds I saved in 2008 and in 2018 I germinated shop bought tomato seed in foil packets from 2005, so germinating after 13 years kept at room temperature in Xmas biscuit selection tubs is doable.

I suspect the rubbish quality of some suppliers seeds has something to do with it, as their non-F1 seeds are inferior to what you can save yourself.
