Whilst having her usual morning gallop Friday Maddie pulled up lame, gave the foot/leg the usual rub, said better now, and carried on walking. Greyhounds are renowned divas, :th scifD36: she was following me very slowly, no glasses so couldn`t get a good look, proceeded home, on closed examination with specs I could see the inside toe was at a funny angle, :yikes: phoned vet who could fit me in, as it was a bit of an emergency, early afternoon.
I feared it was broken, but vet felt sure it was a dislocation, after 3 hrs an xray and £267, toe located back, he pronounced her fit to go home, keep to a lead for 3 weeks, Metacam every morning, been lying quietly on her settee all day, then tonight it`s come out again,:gaah: hobble, hobble, felt down the toe and pressed lightly and it popped back in again, I do hope this doesn`t keep happening.

Dislocated my own big toe, swore a bit and then popped it back in where it should be.

      Net cost = £0 :phew:

like when they charge you a fortune for a repair. It is not about putting the screw in, but: to know where to put it. Sorry to hear of your trouble pamdish, and lets hope doggy recovers promptly:imphrt:

Came out again today, bit harder to get back in, if she can just keep it in for a day or two, she may be okay.

Sounds like it could be a problem.
Not heard of dogs dislocating toes before.

Hope it stays back in this time.

It`s very common in Greyhounds, they have very long toes, combined with the speed they run at 30mph is an average, top class dogs can get a lot faster, 43 mph is the record, the grass where I run her has got quite long, I think she got a clump between her toes and it wrenched the toe sideways.

She is fine on the Metacam, I always have some on hand for the leg/wrist strains,if it comes out again I will take her back, I`m hoping if she can just keep it in for a couple of days the tendons will have chance to repair.

Considered the bandage/plaster roll, but will take advice on it as don`t want to put wrong pressure on the joint.

Toe has dislocated every day except Saturday, twice today, she stood on the step this morning as usual, had a shake, as usual, toe dislocated, :gaah:phoned vet appointment this evening, dislocated while I was cutting lawn, jumped up too quickly, getting quite good at putting it back, and she doesn`t complain, must realise I have to do it, anyway it is now covered in a bandage with loads of cotton wool,to keep her other toes okay and pushing the joint in, walking okay, let`s hope that keeps it in for a few days and it gets chance to start to repair.:fingers crossed:, phoned the council to complain about grass not being cut, I think she got her foot caught in a clump and it wrenched her toe sideways, so they have cut it today, one off as no funding for it, it will have grown again before she can run, and that is the most dangerous time for injuries, as her muscles will be lax.
