Do you reckon this is fairly cat proof?

i dont have bird boxes or feeders in my garden due to owning three cats. Two of those cats hunt and are good at it so i dont want to put birds at extra risk of death.

Bird tables are no good as the cat sits in them and open bird feeders i dont think would be a great idea. Currently the birds do feed on the insects that live in my crochet trellises and they hang on the trellises to feed.

The quince tree is also used by a lot of blue tits and some days it is full of them. The quince tree is in my neighbours garden but hangs over mine. Under neath this branch is my water feature/alpine garden so there is a big drop to the floor so nothing for the cats to jump up from and further enough away from the fence i think.

I just found this bird feeder where the birds go inside the box to feed and i was thinking perhaps this would work as the cats wouldnt be able to get them inside the box and they wouldnt be able to get on the box or in it themselves

    What do you think?

Hmmm, you would have to make sure puss didn't get the lil birdies as they emerge. Looks like a good idea though :) but I know nothing about birds/feeders.

I've got something along the same lines but it's a handmade one. It was made to give the smaller birds a chance because the larger birds were eating everything. The only problem I find is that one of the local cats sits on top of it after trying to get at the birds so I have shoo him away! He hasn't caught any of the birds as far as I know but the birds won't use it when he's around.

Thank you Fern thats really useful info :-) Where im going to hang it im pretty sure the cats wont be able to get on top of it. They dont climb the quince tree for some reason. I think its spikey.

Altho i am having second thoughts as after writing this post one of my pain in the ass cats came in with a mouse i think. I dont know what it was, just heard her come through the cat flap making the noise they make when they have caught something and then i shouted take it out and she ran out with it. That happened twice but never saw what it was.

I think it will be ok....looking at the size of it, I don't think a cat could get on top of easily plus if your cats don't climb the quince tree then all should be fine. I wouldn't mind one myself!

I'm sure the birds would love it Dips and if you think the cats can't get to it, you will have lots of pleasure watching them :)

Hope so :-) i need to get a telephoto lens for my camera to get some good pics. My mum was going to get me one for xmas but mum got confused when it told her there was a new one available and decided not to as she was unsure if new one would be suitable.
