Does any one recognise this? All over our apple tree

    If I rub it a blood like substance bleeds from it,
    Does any body know what it is and how to deal with it?

      Yes that's the image, thanks, and yes that sounds like the problem, think I'll prune first, them the scrubbing brush and then attack them with chemicals
