@longk Your links are not correct as there's still loads of extra stuff after the .jpg plus they're not in the correct format (and I can't work out how you're getting them).

    Link from your last post
    Code:
    http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/get/DSC_2155.jpg?_subject_uid=297759224&w=AAAFBS-O5w6TaSFuMg9HYuTUXQgudWOXTQsxFD2-I0tWtg
Correct format (before changing the front part)
    Code:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/8ouw3od5d71hbg8/biggesttom03.10.2013.jpg

I've found a slightly easier method - right mouse click on image in Dropbox folder on your computer, select 'Share Dropbox link' and a message will appear stating the link has been copied to your clipboard. Then change the front bit as before described.

    dropboxD.jpg

    Link copied to clipboard
    Code:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/8ouw3od5d71hbg8/biggesttom03.10.2013.jpg
Edited link (the http prefix will get added automatically when you post)
    Code:
    dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/8ouw3od5d71hbg8/biggesttom03.10.2013.jpg
Which when pasted between image tags in a post will display correctly

      @Scrungee - you're a star!

I'll stick to Flickr/Photobucket, but at least this makes Dropbox worth not deleting. Thanks!

How can that happen as everything is on your hard drive in addition to on Dropbox's servers?

I thought that the point was that I didn't need to clutter up my hard drive? I back everything up to memory sticks, but if I'm online then it saves the hassle of having the correct stick to hand.
I also use them as a courtesy to the forums I visit, as a URL must take up less memory than uploading a photo?

Now I'm baffled! If I delete it from my hard drive it also disappears online. So, what is the point of Dropbox?

I found it too limiting longk, then when it decided to dump it without asking that was it for me.. I have an external hard drive where I store but I used it for council stuff often.. Just a pain as far as I am concerned..

          It's not Photobucket!

Files deleted on your hard drive can easily be retrieved online, greyed out deleted files can be restored by clicking on the 'dustbin' icon:
          dropboxE.jpg
          and then selecting file(s)
          dropboxF.jpg

You can also restore earlier versions of files if you realised you've mucked something up and overwritten it.

The "advantage" (or point!) of dropbox (and it's like) is meant to be that if you needed to access those files and you were staying elsewhere (on holiday, with friends/relations, or work) you would still have access to them :) It was particularly useful (allegedly) for people at Uni who worked on stuff at home and needed access to it at Uni (personally, I used other means - just as reliable) *That* is the advantage. But, for me (at least) that one advantage far outweighs the disadvantages which I expressed earlier in the thread.

I already have Adobe Air for work stuff. I'm always after extra (free) online storage for photos but kinda misunderstood Dropbox.

My conclusion is that's there's now loads of different solutions to online/cloud backup/sharing that it's become a PITA to become conversant with all of them.
