    I am thinking of ordering a couple so that I have something to watch in the evenings, I don't watch much TV so I have no idea which to choose but these are the two I rather fancy, any comments on these would be really useful also any suggestions would be good too, prefer drama to comedy.

    The Sopranos (I really liked James Gandolfini}

    Downton Abbey

    I really loved Desperate Housewives and I didn't think I would!! Maybe you could watch an episode of it on youtube to see if you like it?

      Ive not looked into it yet but i mean to as lovefilm as been recommended to me by a few people,im not sure how huge the library is but for £9.99 pm it sounded appealing,i dont watch much tv,gardeners world,masterchef & the paradise does me.
      It might be worth checking out for getting full series on there instead of buying dvd sets which can be more exoensive coming up to xmas x

      Lovefilm is really good value, and unlike Netflix they show you their library without you having to join up.

      I have two £29 vouchers for Lovefilm to give away to two people - I'd be more than happy to PM you the code so you get a couple of months free? Drop me a PM if these would help.

      Their monthly subscriptions start at £5.99, and go up depending on whether you want to have DVD's delivered to your door as well as the live, online streaming; there is no minimum contract, so if you want to stop at any time you just call them up and they will stop it - restarting is just as simple too.

          Never seen The Sopranos, so can't comment on that one, Val.

          Downtown Abbey:
          Never saw the first series, but have watched all the rest.

          Pleasant upstairs/downstairs style period drama which draws you into the lives of the family, their servants, the relationship between the two and gives a 'feel' for the attitudes of the time.

          The voice of the character, 'Mary', is something I can only take in small doses. It is bland, tedious, droning and gets on my wick!

          Maggie Smith absolutely *makes* it, for me. Her character is guaranteed to make me LOL at times: almost worth enduring 'Mary's' monotone voice for. Almost. ;)

          I started to watch the 1st series after the 2nd series started, to see what all the fuss was about, and I do like Damien Lewis, hated it

            The Sopranos is one of my favourite programmes and I still watch box sets now. 24 with Kiefer Sutherland is also worth a look.

              @fat controller, that is very kind of you, but I'm afraid I'm not that up to date!! I don't download films yet I still have my 36" analogue TV and a DVD player, the picture on the TV is SO good I really don't want to part with it!!:)

                    I think I found the plot hard to follow, and to be honest it`s one of those programmes where the cast mutter, probably why I couldn`t follow the plot, it`s filmed in darkened rooms, another American idea, I only have limited hearing and both these things make it hard, I lip read to a degree, and if I cannot see them I lose the plot. :oops: and interest.
