        How would i know if im ordering the right plant?
        Ive just followed a link to Burncoose,is this the right plant as lily of the valley is confusing me?Thanks x

        By sticking to the Latin names and forgetting all about common names - simples!!:)

          No, I haven't got one joolz - but it comes from Madeira so I would expect it to be a bit tender.

          It does look very like Pieris, but like LongK I tend to use Latin names because they are a unique identifier, whereas plants often have several English names and an English name can sometimes be used to describe several different plants.

            Thanks,is it worth me buying one here in derbyshire do you think?
            It was about 6ft tall at heligan but cant be sure it wasnt fetched under cover for winter there :dunno: x

            A friend of mine wrote to the head gardener at Heligan (Mike Friend) about a plant she took a fancy to. She got a really informative and friendly (pun not intended) reply.

              I wouldnt of thought so as it was huge but im not sure what the Temps are in winter in cornwall,it looked like it had been there yrs to me x
              I did email them last night and waiting for a reply,asked if its hardy at their lowest temps and what they are at worst,see what reply says :) its can get down to -10 here :gaah:so im not holding out much hope :sad: x

              I doubt that they would mess about digging it up.

                It looked like it was in heaven to me and smelt the same :heehee: it was the only plant that caught my nostrils in cornwall :)
                The one i tagged you in previous had had holly leaf,i was surprised at that,i seen the flower thought of you and was taken aback that a holly bush had flowers like that :)

                Desfontiania spinosa. It should have a reasonable chance of being hardy for you. I have a couple of young plants doing fine.

                  Would it be easier to have a Pieris Joolz? Dunno if that has any/as good a scent though?
