Excess fruit

    My neighbour on one side has 5 old apple trees, two of which produce copious amounts of fruit, the best producer being a yellow apple with loads of juice that I don't like for eating, and no-one else, not even my neighbour, bothers. They accumulate on my decking, attract wasps and generally make a mess. So i've decided to do something with them.
    I used to bottle fruit in enormous quantities to feed the family through the winter with pies, crumbles, etc and make chutneys as well. I live on my own now and don't do a lot of cooking particularly sweet things, so I've decided to go for juice and drying. LOL suggested a blender for juice but for large quantities it's very messy and pulpy, although for small drinks etc. it is good.
    Has anyone got a juicer that works?

    We have a fantastic juicer and the make is 'Green Life' - but it is very expensive and is only worth it if you want to make a lot of juice. It will juice almost anything and we do fruit and veggies. It makes the juice by grinding the food between two large screw-threaded cylinders. When the juice is extracted it just leaves crushed dry pulp behind. It reminds me of pushing meat through a mincer but with two screws interlocking. The food is put in the top and we push it down with a plunger - also just like a mincer. We put the pulp on the compost heap. It works on anything even carrots.

    When I say it is expensive - I think it cost �£200 -�£300!!! There may be a smaller and cheaper version but Mrs shiney uses it a lot and needed a large one - it is over two foot long.

    That sounds very good, just what I need, but sadly I don't think I can justify more than �£100. However googling for info. about yours has thrown up loads of information on proper juicers, so thank you! Although the juice seems to keep only a couple of days at most in the fridge, I thought freezing would be an option?
