External hard drive

    Yes, it will be fine. The connectors stayed the same. What will make a cable USB3 as opposed to USB1 or 2 is only down to the quality of the wire. The faster you try to transfer a signal, the better quality the medium (the cable) has to be. If you used a USB2 cable between two USB3 devices, all that would happen is the two devices, when 'handshaking' (working out the best possible way to talk to each other), the devices would possibly detect excessive signal deterioration at USB3 speed, and knock it down a gear until they found the best reliable speed.

      I picked up a Toshiba 500Gb external hard drive today.

      It appears to be working well at the moment.
