BBC News - Farmers look to pig poo to boost revenues

For those that can't be bothered to read it (and that's not a dig), I'll summarise.

A pig farmer has decided to use all his pig poo along with cut grass etc to make gas, which he uses to fuel a generator, which generates enough power to power 175 homes. In addition, the heat generated from the normal decomposition process is sent to his house to heat the central heating. And of course we all know (or should know) what the by product of this process is? That's right, nice rich, rotted manure which he puts back on his farm instead of buying in fertiliser. On top of all this, he still makes a profit from the process, which should be enough to tempt other farmers into following suit.

    Top work that man:dbgrtmb:

How much is "lots" - is this just another form of tax payer subsidised bio-fuel where crops are grown specifically as a 'fuel' rather than for food?

Perhaps the waste disposal firms should pay attention. Organise proper collections of animal waste from farms, stables etc.together with road verge cutting and park cutting providing grass waste. There is the potential for a further extension of the idea.
