My OH and I love French Beans and recently I have been growing the dwarf variety Hilton. Every year I try to get a head start by starting about ten seeds off in toilet roll tubes in the greenhouse and then planting them out with a cut off plastic pop bottle "cloche" on top of each one, later on, mid May, I sow for succession.
Yesterday we came back off holiday and the beans were all through, "great" I thought. This morning was so lovely that I couldn't resist planting them out, so fingers crossed.
Common sense has dictated that I put another ten seeds down in the greenhouse, just in-case.

Very wise and you might end up with twice as many beans so win-win!

Thankyou for reminding me, I need to put out 6 seeds of a bush green bean. I have yellow wax bush beans about a foot tall, and yard long climbing beans six inches tall (my favorite, do very well in this hot climate and will fruit till October) so for succession I should start a couple more of the bush kind. Our bush beans need no support and crop all at once. I have had terrible luck with them in the last couple years but they are very nice when they do well - I will dry any excess.
