I’m very new to gardening having just purchased my first home, and I’m quickly finding its much harder than it looks!!

This summer I thought I’d give the front lawn some TLC as it was patchy and covered in weeds. I dug up some weeds and then sprinkled seeds across hoping it would restore the greenness of the grass.

Unfortunately we ended up with huge patches of grass being essentially scorched. So I’m working to hopefully get it back in better shape.

Following the recent rain, I’ve noticed patches all over of extremely green but coarse grass growing in clumps. Whilst the green is great it looks really unnatural and I’m unsure what it is and how to fix it.

I’ve attached a photo of the lawn and a close up of what I’m talking about. Would love some advice.

    Thanks,
    Joe.

Welcome to the forum! I also patch bald areas with seed but I cover with soil and keep it well watered until it sprouts. Some areas I have had to go at three times before they finally took but well worth the effort :)

        Hi Joe, welcome to GC.
Seed the bare patches, cover like Lori says and mow avoiding the newly patched areas until established.
Before long you'll have a half decent lawn for everyday family use.

Welcome to Gardeners Corner Joe. :) That looks like couch grass in the lawn, if you dig it out you must remove all the roots as it will re-shoot. The roots tend to run underground and will sprout elsewhere. Or you can kill it with chemicals if you don't have a problem about using them.

Good luck with your new home and garden. :)
