There's loads of articles praising up fish oil supplements. Probably at least as many articles for that as for blueberries, tofu, fish that eat dead skin, leeches etc.

So, fellow real people, why should I take fish oil supplements?

It is supposed to be for joint problems, never taken it but know a few people that do.

They're very good for depression......but you have to take clinical grade oil with pure EPA.

I bought some because in winter, my skin always becomes very dry to the point that I get itchy. I read afterwards that its also good for your heart.

I'd prefer to eat the fish rather than bits of it put into a little capsule thats probably made from a dead moo cow.

People got this thing about not eating oil & fat, but we need it, just not in the McDonalds proportions. Nothing wrong with a good oily fish :)

I'd prefer to eat it as actual fish too, but unfortunately, despite Redcar being a seaside town, fish is rare and expensive round here for some reason.

I take supplements as i have bad Arthrits, and when you click and crack all day long my joints wear out, i take afew differants supplements

@Zigs you can get supplements which don't use moo's, I can put up a link if you want to know the company (fish base not moo base)

The fish oil jobbies are said to be quite good at reducing colesterol (info from my Doc').

                Cheers, Tony.

I'm not going to beat about the bush on this.
I think the supplements are slightly dodgy, if you eat a normally balanced diet I cant see why you should need them.
As to fish being expensive, I'm not sure its any pricier than meat, lamb being the dearest in supermarkets I think, but I see sheep everywhere.
Mackerel is always a bargain, but often caught far too small, I dont buy the small ones.

Salmon is also a good buy, I think, just as long as you use loads of onions in order to give it a bit of flavour.
                    Seabass is also good.

I've had a few conversations about the price of fish recently and in comparison to meat for those that eat it it's far more expensive in these parts too..i think when you compare it to a joint of meat where you can get more than one meal off it that's what can put folk off buying it:dbgrtmb:

T'other half and I both take Cod Liver Oil tablets daily because we are 'old and creaky' :old: but have 'upped' mine now to 2200 mg per day and am noticing a difference. Living where we do, fish is an obvious choice of food as is olive oil.

I'm doing t'other half salmon filets grilled with lime juice and black pepper and rice tonight ... me? ... I'm having an Iceland lamb roast dinner ... :heehee::heehee: ... it IS Sunday folk ...
